Andini Makosinski is a Filipino-Polish-Armenian “Renaissance Woman”. inventor, STEM, UN Youth ambassador, writer, and influencer. When Ann was fourteen years old, she found out that her friend Maria in the Philippines failed a grade in school because her family couldn’t afford electricity. Maria therefore had no light to study with when darkness hit at 6 pm, so Ann set about finding a solution. Ann ended up inventing the Hollow Flashlight, a flashlight that runs off the heat of the human hand. During the beginning of her grade 11 year, the flashlight went viral online and Ann won in her age category at the Google Science Fair in Mountainview, California. Ann Makosinski then invented another device – the eDrink. The eDrink harvests the excess heat of one’s hot drink and converts it into electricity, giving one’s phone a boost of energy. More awards and interviews followed, and Ann with her father set up Makotronics Enterprises Incorporated in Victoria BC to manage the patenting and licensing of her inventions. As a black autistic woman in STEM, Ayo was often advised to be a certain way which was viewed more favourably. But this is not diversity. That is external difference, a form of exclusion. Ayo believes that the world needs to create spaces for everyone to show up as they are, knowing they will receive respect and value at work regardless of their approach. Neurodiversity : It is estimated that between 30-40% of the world’s population is neurodiverse, so why is the conversation around it just getting started? In this talk, Ayo: - Chats through famous neurodiverse people to bring the message home that there are so many people we don’t know are neurodiverse. - Talks about her own neurodiversity and the journey she has taken to sharing this. - Talks about the different kinds of neurodiversity and how they each mean for the individual, both the strengths and potential support needs. - Advises how we can all provide spaces that allow neurodiverse individuals to be themselves and to thrive. - Speaks about the importance of caution in our neurodiversity narrative, talking about the value of neurodiversity but also the inherent worth and value that neurodiverse people bring to business. - Shares tips and tricks for both neurodiverse people and non-neurodiverse, so everyone can do their part in this inclusion journey. He then took a second year to go to the Mosquito Coast of Honduras and Nicaragua where he worked on a turtle conservation project. During this time, he also became a midshipman in the Royal Navy Reserve, serving as an officer delivering aid to war-torn Bosnia and Croatia. His first foray into television was on BBC’s Castaway,  in which he was marooned on an island in the Outer Hebrides for a year as a social experiment. Dr Ozak Esu is a multi-award-winning professional electronic and electrical engineer and STEM advocate from Nigeria. Growing up in Nigeria, motivated Ozak to pursue engineering by the challenges posed by electricity shortages. Flo Headlam once worked in the charity sector, before deciding in her mid-forties to change track and enter the world of horticulture and gardening. Flo Headlam was always passionate about gardening. Aged 13, Tim Peake had a dream of becoming a pilot became a reality when he took control of an aircraft for the first time. By the time he was 18, he had already flown numerous solo sorties and been awarded a coveted position to join the British Army Air Corps.
